Considering the historical development of Uzbekistan, it has been observed that the Bokhara Peoples Republic was founded through the support of the Red Army pursuant to Bokhara Emirate in the year of 1920. Feyzullah Hocayev who was the chairman of the Council of Bokhara Peoples Superintendents played the leading role in the activity of restrictive bordering that was carried out between the years of 1920-24 and he was the first ally of Moscow. Upon the national bordering, Bokhara Soviet Socialist Republic was abolished and the lands of this republic were annexed to Uzbekistan. Within this context, it is possible to identify Uzbekistan as the extended Bokhara. Actually, it seems that Samarkand section of the Soviet Turkestan, Tashkent region and a wide area of Ferghana Valley were united with the former Bokhara and Uzbekistan was thus formed. However, this situation was not approved and recognised by both the Western and Soviet historians.
Pursuant to the events in the year of 1917, the people of Turkestan demanded for the establishment of a federation in order to govern their internal affairs independently. However, Turkestan Independent Socialist Republic that was founded as a subject state of the Russians was a unit founded by Moscow in order to calm Turkestan and to hinder the demand of Turkestan for independence. Turkestan Soviet Socialist Republic was abolished all of a sudden and it was divided into republics. These events verified this opinion.
The native politicians considered themselves as the representatives of the officially ordinary but unforgettable historical events. Between the years of 1935-1938, Feyzullah Hocayev and Ekmel Ekremov had a political competition. Hocayev was powerful and influential in Bokhara and Samarkand while Ekremov was influential in Tashkent and Ferghana. In the year of 1937, firstly Hocayev and then Ekremov were arrested. They were executed in the year of 1938. Upon this movement of Stalinist extermination that was initiated in Uzbekistan, the leading persons of the Uzbek intellectual environments that were on the verge of formation were annihilated. Therefore, the political domination of the progressive reformists was put to death. Thus, both the national wing of the government that was represented by Hocayev and the national Bolshevik branch that was advocated by Ekremov were abolished. A new era for Uzbekistan was opened in the year of 1938 and a new political generation came to power under the leadership of Osman Yusufov.
