There have been various allegations and opinions asserted about the Uzbek tribe. For example, as stated by Ebugazi Bahadır Khan (1603-1669), the name of Uzbek was the name given by Golden Horde Khan Uzbek to his own people that dominated between the years of 1313-1340. In the beginning the name of Uzbek was given to the eastern branch of Cuci country in order to distinguish it from the Chagatai country. Then, it was used as the name of the tribes that were especially founded subject to Ebul Hayr pursuant to Ozbek Khan that provided the adoption of the religion of Islam by Uzbek people. Therefore, the name of Ozbek Khan attained a continuity that identified the tribe. As it was stated by Yakubovsky, when Ozbek Khan organised his military expedition towards Azerbaijan in the year of 1335, his soldiers were called as Ozbek people. Pursuant to the establishment of the state by Ebul-Hayr, the name of Uzbek became the name of the state.
Uzbek people represent 69% of the population in the Republic of Uzbekistan today. The Uzbek people that had lived in Uzbekistan Soviet Sociality Republic in the past had also constituted the majority of the population. These people are composed of various Turkish tribes. In the period of Russian domination, Uzbek people were called as Sart, Kurama, Tajik, Chagatai, Turk, Mülmlan, etc.
As it is known, the rulers that came from the lineage of the Golden Horde Khan Ozbekin collected the Turks together in Ferghana Valley and founded a new state and they called this state as the Uzbek State.
