BAGHDAD PACT (24 Febuary 1955)
Baghdad Pact was signed between Turkey and Iraq on 24 Febuary 1955.This Pact which was concerned with cooperating about defence and security issues made improvement in Iraq-Turk relations.In spite of this improvement Iraqs pressure on Turks increased.When Iraq was a mandated country there was an assimilation policy on Turks after being an independence country,this policy changed into a serious Pressure.Especially In President Nuri Said era this assimilation policy went on systematically.In this term Tahsin Askeri,Mustafa Karadağ and Reşid Necip were appointed to Kerkük as Kurd Mayors.In treaties drown up between Turkey and Iraq Turks situation wasnt touch on.No improvement made about Turkish education and the prohibition of speaking Turkish continued.Briefly,relations between Iraq and Turkey improved but Iraq Governments pressure on Turks was increasing graduaııy.In this kind of situation,a revolution happened in Iraq on 14 July 1958 and Kingdam regime was finished.
