The Central Anatolian Region that is located in the centre of Turkey covers approximately 19 % of the total lands of Turkey with its surface area of 151.000 km2. It is the second largest region of Turkey following the Eastern Anatolian region. The provinces of Nevşehir, Aksaray, Kırıkkale and Kırşehir are entirely located within the boundaries of the region. Some lands of the other cities run over the Black Sea, Mediterranean and Eastern Anatolian regions. Agriculture and industry are the important means of subsistence in the Central Anatolian region. Nearly one-third of the wheat production of Turkey is met from this region. Wheat is the mostly produced grain among the cereal types. Konya takes the first place in respect of wheat production. Ankara takes the second place following Konya. Tough wheat that is suitable for the production of macaroni, cracked wheat and semolina is produced in the region. From the legume family, mostly beans and chickpea are cultivated and also lentil is cultivated with a little amount. One-third of the potato production of Turkey is covered in this region. Mostly sugar beet is cultivated among the cash crops of plantation. The provinces of Konya, Ankara, Bigde, Nevşehir and Kayseri are of great significance in respect of viniculture and fruit growing.

There are mostly medium- and small-scaled industrial facilities in the Central Anatolian region. The carpet business is concentrated in the section of Kayseri, Sivas and Konya. The principal industrial plants of the region are concentrated in the centres such as Ankara, Eskişehir, Kayseri, Sivas, Konya, Kırıkkale and Çorum.
