TURKISH SETTLEMENT PLACES

The Iraq Turks live in the belt reaching from the northwest to southeast of the country today. They are the strategic areas from the villages of Telafec in 60km away from east of Musul and northwest of the country, hunderts of villages around Musul, Altın Köprü, Kerkük, the villages around Tazehurmatu, Tavuk, Tuzhurmatu, Kifri, Karatepe, Hanekın, Kızlarbat (Sadiye), Karağan (Celevla) and surroundingvillages, districts province towns and villages such as, Shahraban (Mikdadiye) Bedre, Kazaniye and Mendeli.The area in which the Turks settlement is located in the lines Erbil, Kerkük and Diyale of north Iraq.It should not be forgetten that nearly 50 000 Turk,sh famiy also live in capital Bağdat. Here are the main regions and villages of Kerkük: Badava, Beşir, Blava, Çardağlı, Göktepe, Ilıncak, Karaincir, Kızılya, Kuktepe, Kümbedler, Leylan, Ömermenden, Tazehurmatu, Tercil, Tırkolon, Tırkeşkan, Tokmaklı, Topzava, Yahyava, Yayçı (the Turkmen were exiled to another areas as result of some of these was pulled down by the Bağdat government). The Tavuk region of Tuzhurmatu and the village of İmam Zeynelabidin near it, are the pure settlement areas of the Turks. Tuzhurmatu is the most important Turkish district in Iraq after Telafer.The villages in which Bayat tribe living within the boundries of this district settle down, here are the main villages in which Bayat tribe lives: Abbud, Amirli (Emirli), Bastamlı, Biravcılı, Çağdağlı, Hasardadı, Karanaz, Muradlı (Süleyanbeg), Pirahmetli,, Şah seven, Yengice, Zengülü. Diyale has a considerable amount of Turkish population in its boundies. There are 5 districts in the shore of Diyale.These are Bakuba, Halis, Hanekin, Mendeli, and Şahraban (its present name is Mıktadiye). We come across the Turkish populating in almost all these 5 districtions. There are also Turkish towns belonging to these districts. Among these towns, Kazaniye belonging to Bakubaıysa, Mansuriyet Çebel to Halis’e: the center Hankenin belonging to Hanekin Karagon (Celevla), Kızlarbat (Sadiye), Karatu, and Meydani; Kazaniye and Beledrus to Mendilli, the center region carrying the some name with Şahraban (Mıktadiye) are among the important settlemenr areas of the Turks.By the way the towns in the area such as Bacalon, Bahruz, Deliabbas, İbrahim Semin, Karaciva, Karaulus, and Kenaniye have Turkish populations. We also should point out that about 50 Turkish villages exist in the area.
