The National Forces had showed an effective resistance in some regions against the unfair invasions of the enemies pursuant to the armistice. However, it was not possible to totally defeat the organised armies of the enemy in a crushing manner by means of these forces that could be qualified as todays guerillas. Therefore, a long term of period would be required for this victory. However, it was obligatory to form an organised army and to equip and train this army with the contemporary and modern weapons in order to repulse the armies of the enemies from the country. Therefore, it was required to transform the National Forces into an organised army. On the other hand, the undisciplined attitudes of some of the troops pertaining to the National Forces in the West Front provided opportunity for the outburst of propaganda against them. Meanwhile, Ali Fuat Pasha who was the commander of the West Front has attacked to the Greek forces in Gediz without the establishment of a full agreement with the General Staff. This attack that was initiated on the date of 24th October 1920 ended up with defeat. In return to this attack, the Greek forces attacked from the front in Bursa and they invaded Yenişehir and Inegöl. They forced our troops to retreat back to the ridges of Dumlupinar with an attack that they forayed from Uşak. The defeat in the attack from Gediz caused reciprocal accusations of the organised forces and the National Forces. This last event laid foundation for the formation of the organised army. The proper resolutions were taken in respect of the formation of the organised army on the date of 8th November 1920. Since the authority of Ali Fuat Pasha who was the Commander of West Front was damaged, it was found proper that he would resign from his post of commandership. Upon his own will, it was resolved that he would be charged and sent as the Ambassador in Moscow. The West Front was divided into two branches. The most important sections were named as the West Front and these regions were given under the command of the Colonel Ismet Bey (İnönü) that became the Commander of the General Staff. The Colonel Refet Bey (Bele) was assigned as the commander of the southern branch in order to arrange especially the organisation of cavalry troops.
Meanwhile, the Allied States transgressed the armistice borders and tried to invade our southern regions on the pretext of the 7th article of Mondros Armistice. These movements caused the spontaneous outburst of resistance in various places of Anatolia. The provinces of Adana, Maraş, Antep and Urfa were left to France. The French forces that invaded this region collaborated with the Armenian minorities and they initiated the activities for resistance and organisation to deter and intimidate the people. However, French forces were defeated in the war within the region and they had to retreat from these places.
