gullari Principality
The founder of this principality was Hamids son, Dündar Bey. This principality had dominated for 44 years between 1280-1324 and it had been annexed to Ilhanli State. However, after 3 years, it attained its independency again and existed as an independent principality between the years of 1327 and 1391. It had established dominion in Isparta, Burdur, Suhut, Akşehir, Beyşehir, Seydişehir, Yalvaç, Elmalı, Korkuteli, Serik, Manavgat, Akseki regions. It had left most of its lands to the Ottoman State in the year of 1374. It had totally been annexed to the Ottoman lands by Yıldırım Bayezid in the year of 1391.
Hamîdogullari principality had two branches in Isparta, and in Teke (Antalya). The Isparta branch was dominant for 44 years between the years of 1280 and 1324. Then, it had dominated for another 64 years between 1327 and 1391. Therefore, the total period of domination was 108 years. The domination of Tekeogullari branch had lasted for nearly 123 years until the year of 1423. The principality was submissive to the Seljukogullari until the year of 1308 and to Ilhanli State until the year of 1324. It had been annexed to the lands of Ilhanli State for 3 years between the years of 1324-1327. Then, it re-emerged in the year of 1327. Afterwards, it became submissive to Ilhanli State until the year of 1335, and then lost its independency. Sultan Murad I had forced Huseyin Bey to lave Aksehir, Yalvaç, Beysehri, Karaagac, and Seydişehri to the Ottoman State in return for 80.000 golds in the year of 1374. Yıldırım Sultan Bayerzid had annexed the lands of the country to the Ottoman union in the year of 1391. Timur did not invigorate this branch of Hamidogullari principality after the Ankara war since this could create a situation against the Karamanli principality as well as the Ottoman State.
While its capital city had been Uluborlu until the year of 1310, then it was moved to Egridir that was called as Felek-Âbâd in attribution to Dundar Bey. Isparta was also called as Hamîd-İli in the period of the Ottoman State. Within the most extensive framework, this principality had included the entire provinces of Isparta and Burdur, the districts of Suhut, Akşehir, Beyşehri, Seydişehri, the central district of Antalyaand the other districts of Elmalı, Korkuteli, Serik, Manavgat, Akseki, even Kaş and Finike pertaining to Menteseogullari principality through their submission. The surface area of these lands is approximately 30.000 km2. Of this surface area, the area of 14.000 km2 pertained to the Tekeogullari principality. The surface area of the lands sold to Sultan Murad I was 8.000 km2.
In the last years of Turkey Seljuk State, Felekeddîn Dündar Bey who was the chief of Turkmens in Egridir and its environs had founded the Hamidogullari Principality in the beginning of the century XIV. Pursuant to the foundation, Dundar Bey had captured the province of Korkut and Antalya and expanded the borders of his country towards the south. He was submissive to Emir Coban who had come to Anatolia in the year of 1314 and he recognised the domination of Ilhanli State. However, Timurtaş who was the governor of Anatolia connected to Ilhanli State killed Dundar Bey and captured the lands of Egridir branch of Hamidogullari principality (1324). Nevertheless, when his father, Emir Coban and was on strained terms with Ebu Said who was the sultan of Ilhanli State and was killed, Timurtas ran away to Egypt (1327). Dundar Beys son, Hizir who benefited from this situation founded the principality again.Dündâr Bey had captured Antalya in the year of 1321 and left it to his brother, Yunus Bey. Therefore, the Antalya branch of Hamidogullari principality (or Tekeogullari) had been founded thereof. Afterwards, Yunus Bey was replaced by Mahmud Bey. When Timurtas took shelter in the Mameluke State, Mahmud Bey ran away to Cairo and he was put into prison there.
Afterwards, Sultan Yıldırım Bayezid captured Antalya in the year of 1390 and gave this city to his son, Isa Celebi together with the province of Teke. Pursuant to Ankara War, Osman Celebi from Hamidogullari principality recognised the domination of Timur and asked help from Karamanogullari principality in order to recapture Antalya. Ottomans who had heard of this situation killed Osman Celebi as a result of a raid. Therefore, the Antalya branch of Hamidogullari principality was abolished and their lands were annexed to the lands of Ottomans (1423).
Although the surface area of the lands pertaining to this principality was small, they had an important trade centre by means of the port of Antalya. Especially in the first half of the century XIV, the products such as carpets, rugs, lining textile fabrics and cotton fabrics, etc. manufactured in the region of lakes were exported from this port. The works that have survived until now since the period of Hamidogullari principality are Dündâr Bey (or Tas Medrese) located in Egridir, Emîr Sinaneddîn Medresesi (theological school) in Antalya and Yivli Minare Câmii (mosque), etc.
