In the sultanate period of Evrengzib (Alemgir I) that lasted until the year of 1707, the empire reached to its most extensive borders and the entire India was under the domination of Turks. Evrengzib was a radical Muslim, a brave commander, a good governor and a statesman open to innovations. He annihilated his brothers that attempted to be involved in a struggle for the throne.
Evrengzib had good relations with the Turkish and Muslim worlds, and he had not any significant problem with his neighbours. He decreased the taxes collected from the people, and he established the order and the state of peace. He had donated silver and golden coins an an aid to the Ruler of Abyssinia.
However, in his period, the Dutch people had been interested in the trade of India pursuant to the English people; and some privileges were granted to them in the ports of Gucerat. He was complainant about the exploiter attitudes of the foreign companies that gradually increased in his country; but his trade ships were protected by the English people against the pirates in the Indian Ocean and the economic benefits of India necessitated their satisfaction. Therefore, he could not do anything but increased the custom tariffs and taxes to a significant level.
Evrengzib acquired fame as the fairest ruler of India. His greatest weakness was that he did not bring sufficient Turkish soldiers to India. If it had been accomplished, he would be much more powerfujl and successful against both the pressures of the majority group and the Western people that tried to capture his country.
Evrengzib died in the year of 1707 and the struggles for the throne that turned into a bad tradition in all the Turkish states came into existence again.
