Issue about the Origin of Steppe Culture

Scythian Theory

According to this opinion that was alleged by Zichy I, the type of culture that we have called as "Steppe culture" was composed of "trooper nomadic life". Horse breeding and shepherding constituted the base for this culture and the Scythian region in the northern plain lands of the Black Sea was considered as the most suitable area for these types of activities. The "animal style" that was a nomadic style of art has come into existence and developed in this region and then, diffused to "Eurasia".

According to this theory, the trooper nomadic culture came into existence in the 4th century BC. There were some oppositions against the supporters of this theory and it was mentioned that there were some trooper nomadic tribes that lived in the steppe lands of "Eurasia" in the middle of 2nd millennium BC. It was pointed out that these cultural indicators observed in the Scythian people might have resulted from the influence of the Turkish element over them. Furthermore, it was stated that there was a similarity between the Scythian culture and the Altay findings with the same symbols- since "Kırali Scythian people" had come from the east"- and the origin should be looked for in the east.
