92% of Karakalpak Turks live in Karakalpak Autonomous Republic. Apart from these people, there are some Karakalpak communities in the regions of Harezm ans Ferghana in Uzbekistan, in the region of Tashauz in Turkmenistan, in some regions of Kazakhstan and in Astrahan regions of the Russian Federation. Similarly, it is supposed that there are 2000 people of Karakalpaks in Afghanistan and several thousands of Karakalpaks in Iran.
The population of Karakalpaks has increased with the rate of 40% since 1979 so far and the population is so young. The population of women is greater than the population of men in respect of rates. It is anticipated that the population of Karakalpaks will reach to 700.000 in the year of 2000. The annual rate of increase was estimated as 3.96%.
Although 92% of the Karakalpak Turks live in their own republic, they have the same rate of population with Uzbeks (32%) here and they have the majority in the country. This situation shows that the Autonomous Republic found in their name is an artificial institution.
