The general geographical conditions of Tataristan are in the shape of an extended part of the East European savanna. The average altitude of the Republican lands is about 200 meters and the highest point above the sea level is 367 meters in the region of Bugulma and the lowest point is about 35 m. where the River Idyll leaves the Republican lands.The formation of the lands of Tataristan in the geological eras formed the fossil fuels such as petroleum, gas and lignite. But due to the fact that the mine of lignite is too deep, its production and procession could not be made. The climate of Tataristan shows the characteristics of continental climate. Summers are hot and sometimes arid and winters are cold. The lowest average temperature of the year is about -14 °C in the month of January. The highest average temperature is 19.9 C° in the month of June. Generally, the temperatures fall down approximately with a degree of 2,5 C° from the southeast parts towards the northwest parts.
The annual average amount of rainfall is 430-500 mm, and the average evaporation excise about 550-570 mm. 2/3 of the rainfall coincides to the season of summer and particularly to the autumn. The thickness of the snow in winters can reach up to 60 cm. The biggest rivers of Tataristan are the rivers of Idyll and Kama and the streams of Belya and Batka that are the branches of Kama. The annual water amount of these four rivers is about 235 billions m3. Furthermore, the dams of Kuybışev and Tüben Kama (Nijnekamsk) are constructed over these rivers. Approximately 1/3 of the country is covered with productive soils. The terrestrial lands that are suitable for agriculture are much located on the banks of Idyll and Kama rivers.
