Today, our people of the same race living in Iraq are generally called Turks. The Turkmen experission, however, has started to draw attention over the past years. After the World War I. over in 1918, Our people of the same race maintaining their existence as citizens of the state founded with the name Iraq by being pulled away by force from Turkey was called the Turks long years. However, after the year 1959, it had been started to call our people of the same race Turkmen, to make it forget the blood and culture relations with Turkey of people living in Iraq. So in their opinion, the Iraq goverment providing that the Turk's origins living in Iraq not reaching to Anatolia, but to Orta Asya, was going to pull away our people from Turkey, the hard of Turkish world and end the Turkish of the Turks with the saying of Turkmen. This practice had been considered befrore by the English, but had not been got any result. After the year 1959 in Iraq, the Turkish named as Turkmen group by Bağdat goverment as it's known had been expressed as Turkmen by English commitee during Lozan Conferance.İsmet Pasha who was the chief of Turkish commitee, had explained that Turkmen and Turk were synonims besides by clarifying that Turkey Turkmen were Turkmen to in this relation, had consequently put forward whether this could be the subject of morever.In this way, the English thesis had been refuled even those times.
The Abdul Kareem Kasim Government getting start the Republic period in Iraq, tried to show that Turks are Turkmen so, the Turkish group in Iraq is of not Turkish origion, but Orta Asya and so supposedly ended its cultural and rocial relations with Turks in Iraq.Just like the Greek goverment is using Muslim expression for Turks in order not to call Turkish living in Greek land, the Iraq government turned to away that could not able to change the result in any condition. Or people living in Iraq, were contended with the name Turkmen given to them, they feet reluctant to use this expression without finding it old.
Actually, the expression of Turkmen widely convey the Oghuz Turks emigrating to west, and the Turks embracing the Muslim religion, that is incude Turkish, Azerbaycan, Balkan, Cyprus, Syria, and Iraq Turks in this meaning. Today the Turkmen tribe living in Turkmenistan, Afganistan and some in Iran does not bear any relition to the Iraq Turkmen, to be more eract, to the Turks actually as it was known. As we said before, the expression of Turkmen for Turks contiuning its being up to now, is the product of a decision as a secret and politic manevra under it, actually. So, the expression of Turkmen for Iraq Turks is not right, though it is not such dangerous or wrong.
