Population: 1.030.000 Their residential places: They live in the cities of Astarhan, Terek, Kizilyar, Açıkulak, Perekop, Çelyabinsk that are connected to the Russian Federation; in the cities of Şumnu and Dobruca in Bulgaria and in the cities of Ankara -Polatlı, Şereflikoçhisar, Konya-Kulu, İstanbul, Osmaniye, Adana, Çorum, Eskişehir, Bursa, Kütahya, Gaziantep and Isparta-Senirkent in Turkey. Their political and administrative positions: They obey to the administrative structure of the country in which they live.
History
The word of Nogay has firstly been observed in the Altinordu State within the course of Turkish history. Nogay Han had the highest ranks in the Altinordu State due to his superior capacities and his great organisational talents. The Turkish communities that were subject to Nogay Han had taken his name thereof. Nogay people had led a nomadic life in Dest-i Kipchak (the desert of Kipchaks) until the 13th century. Nogay people who had lived together in the past were dispersed due to several reasons. Some of them changed their location while most of them were assimilated within the other Turkish tribes.
Status Quo
Nogay people who have survived until today live in the Caspian steppes, the Northern Caucasus, the Crimea, Idyll-Ural basin, the Western Turkistan and Lithuania, Dobruca, Deliorman region and in Turkey.
Nogay people in the Caspian Steppes: They reside in the vast delta of the Low Idyll, in villages and towns within the environs of Astarhan and in the northern sections of Kuma Stream that is located in the south of Kalmukya. Sincethey have forgotten their own accent, they are called as Kazan people. Their principal communities in this region are Karaağaç people (Karagaş) and Kundur people.
Nogay people in the Northern Caucasus: They dwell in five regions of Caucasus. They live as a crowded group in the steppes called with their names that is located between the streams of Kuma and Terek in Daghestan and especially in the region of Kizilyar, Hasavyurt and Açıkulak districts.
Crimean Nogay people: Nogay people live in the savanna region in the north of the Crimean peninsula and on the northern skirts of the hilly section, within the environs of Perekop district, and on the banks of the streams (Tolmak, Bedri, etc.) that run into the Sea of Azov in the northeast.
Nogay people in Idyll-Ural Basin: Nogay people (Bagaybaks) that live among Tatars in this region is a small ethnic community. Nowadays, they reside in Bashkiria and within the environs of the Upper Ural in the Province of Çelyabinsk that is the northeast neighbour of Bashkiria . Nogaybak people speak with the Tatar accent of the Northern (Kipchak) Turkish that has mixed with the Bashkurd elements. They are the members of Orthodox sect of the Christianity. Nogay people in Bashkiria speak with Bashkurd accent of the Northern Turkish.
Nogay people in Western Turkistan (Kazakhstan): Nogay people who live among Kazakh people in this large region live under the tribal order of these people in the sections of Orta (Middle) and Kiçi (Small). Those who live in the Middle section have come from Camanbay, a branch of Kongırat according to the pedigree. These Nogay people were the ancestors of Satıbaldı, Tokas and Şahan tribes. Nogay nomad groups in Kazakhstan live in the region of Canga-Korgan within the division of Kizilorda. All of them speak with the Kazakh accent of the Northern Turkish.
Nogay people in Kyrgyzstan: There is a branch called as Nogay pertaining to Çirik tribe connected to Ön-Kol within the structure of the tribal order among Khirghiz people. They speak with the Khirghiz accent of the Northern Caucasus.
Lithuanian Nogay people: They live in the north of Poland and in the region located in the east of the Baltic Sea. Nogay people who live in this region are also called as Lithuanian Tatars. Nogay people in this region could have only preserved their religion (Islam).
Romanian Nogay people: Nogay people had immigrated to the western coasts of the Black Sea centuries ago. Nogay people of today live in the region of Dobruca (the province of Köstence) in the right section of the delta pertaining to the Danube River and they are dispersed.
Bulgarian Nogay people: They live in Deliorman region in the south of the Danube River and in the villages within the environs of Şumnu (Kolarovgrad).
10)Nogay people in Turkey: Most of Nogay people who have recently come to Turkey have been settled in the Central Anatolia. Today, Nogay people live in some villages of Polatlı and Şereflikoçhisar districts in Ankara, in some villages of Kula district in Konya, in İstanbul, Osmaniye, Adana, Çorum, Eskişehir, Bursa, Kütahya, Gaziantep and in the district of Senirkent in Isparta.
