THE FIRST GENOCIDE TURKS MET
After leaving from homeland Turkey ,the first genocide which Turks met in Iraq occured on 4 May 1924 (30 Ramazan 1342) in Kerkük.Sudenly coinciding Festival Eve. The event which Teyyari (Asuri) soldiers called Levy 19 started, had been named wronly as Armenian Vendetta by public. Actually after Teyyarris had committed murder in Musul bazaar on 15 August 1923, the Government which was only counted with transferring to these soldiers to Kerkuk was being understood to have a big mistake about this events occurrence. The event occurred like this;O ne of the groups of these soldiers always annoying citizen and make rows at every opportunity argue with one of the merchant while they are shopping in Kerkuks old region called Buyukbazar.Arguement turns into conflict and one of the soldiers is injured . Soldiers begining to flee return their barracks, take the other Teyyari soldiers and weapons with them. By attacking the civilian citizen begin to open fire haphazardly. This genocide which Kerkuk Turks grieve for is informed by English Judge that the quilties will be punished in order to calm dawn the citizens and tribes. At the same time also a communique prepared in Turkish hasbeen published for Kerkuk citizen . In communique dated 5 May1924 signed by English Politic Dominant have started that ; Asuri soldiers in Levy Army will be transmitted to Suleymaniye among Çemçemal . Meanwhile Peoples indemnity whose shops damaged and looted will be compensated by the trail . Thus , Goverment has made some artificial efforts in order to please the Turks.
