Assassinations against the Turks
The assassination attempts against the Turks which started in 1961 in Kerkük led to strained atmosphere among the people. The first assassination attempt took place on 6th March 1961. That day , the young Turkish boy called Salah Kayacı was trapped and murdered by unknown people with automatics while returning from the quarry where he worked. Subsequent to this incident which caused a great sorrow among the people, Turkish Youth and Tradesman turned the funeral which was held in Kerküt into a meeting.
