TURKMENBASI
Saparmurat Atayevich Niyazov was born in 1940 as the son of a worker family. His father was killed during 2nd World War. The other members of the family were killed in the Aşkabat earthquake occurred in 1948. He was first brought up in the orphanage and then in the house of his far relatives.
He graduated from Leningrad Technical University as a energy engineer. He worked in Bezmein energy plants near Aşkabat. Then he became a member of the Communist Party. He was appointed as the Chairman of Turkmenistan Deputies Council in 1985. Then he was elected as the 1st Secretary of Central Committee of Turkmen Communist Party.
He was appointed on 13 January 1990 to Chairman of Supreme Soviet, which was the high judicial organ of the Republic.
He was elected as the first President of Turkmenistan in elections held on 27 October 1990. On 21 June 1992, he took 99.9 percent of the votes in election of a new president for approval of the new constitution. Saparmurat (Niyazov) Türkmenbaşı, is the founder and chairman of World Turkmens Foundation.
He is entitled as Türkmenbaşı (Leader of Turkmens all over the world).
Turmenbasi is married with 2 children.
