Economy
The Tchetchenian economy is based on petroleum. The petroleum extraction plants are mostly located on Sunja and Terek Mountains between Grozni and Gudermes. The oil pipelines extend to Mohaçkale on the coast of the Caspian Sea, to Tuaspe and Donetsk Basin in the Black Sea. The natural gas reserves take an important place in the region. The industry and agriculture are developed to a medium level. The transportation is carried out through railways. The railways follow the valleys of Terek and Sunja and they are connected to Astrahan and Baku on the coast of the Caspian Sea, Tuaspe on the coast of the Black Sea and Rostow in the Sea of Azov.
Education
There were 3 universities, 12 technical academies and 542 secondary schools before the war. There were 16.000 students in the universities, 12.600 students in the technical academies and 256.000 students in the secondary schools who took their educations.
