Crimea that is a peninsula located in the north of the Black Sea is an autonomous Republic connected to Ukraine. The Crimean Turks are under the management of Crimean Tatar National Assembly that is the Tatar Autonomous Administration. Its Principal Cities are Akmescit, Akyar, and Yalta.

History

Turks had started to settle down in the Crimea since the year of 430 and they took the name of the Crimean Turks since the 13th century. First of all, they were within the structure of Altinorda State, then, they established the Crimean Khanate the borders of which expanded towards Moscow. When the Crimean Khanate and the Ottoman Empire got closer as a single state since the year of 1475, the borders of the Ottoman Empire were expanded towards the southern frontiers of Russia. In accordance with the Küçük Kaynarca Agreement signed in the year of 1774 between the Ottoman Empire and Russia, the Crimean Khanate was not under the Ottoman protection any more. The slavery years of the Crimean Turks that suffered from the Russian invasions started thereof. The native people were forced to immigrate to the other regions.

The biggest waves of immigration occurred in the years of 1792, 1860-63, 1874-75, and 1891-1902. When the Russian Tsardom was dissolved upon the Bolshevik revolution, the Way to Independence was opened for the Crimea. Crimean Tatar National Assembly gathered on the date of 9th December 1917 and they declared the establishment of the Crimean People's Republic on the date of 26th December 1912. Germans invaded the Crimea for a short period in the month of April in 1918; and then it was again invaded by the Bolsheviks towards the end of the year of 1920. In the year of 1921, the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was founded and it was connected to Russia. The Crimean Tatars were exiled collectively from the Crimea on the date of 18th May 1944. According to the decree promulgated on the date of 25.6.1945, the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was abrogated and Crima was connected to Russia with the status of oblation. On the occasion of the 1000th year of Russian-Ukrainian friendship, Kruşçev took the city of Crimea from Russia and then connected it to Ukraine. Today, the Crimean region is an Autonomous Republic connected to Ukraine. There is a Tatar Autonomous Administration within the structure of the Republic.
