Capital: Maykop Adige that is a republic connected to the Russian Federation was an autonomous region connected to Krasnodar zone of the federation recently. It achieved the status of Adige Autonomous Region on the date of 7th October 1990. Adiges who were not contended with the status of "Autonomous Region" achieved the identity of an "Autonomous Republic" in the year of 1995 as a result of their struggles that they continued.

The Circassians who emigrated from Anatolia to the region of Crimea and Caucasus in order to protect their faiths due to the struggle of Islam-Christianity settled down in the region called as "Adigeko". They combined with the native Adige people here and they constituted the Adige community within a union. As a result of the wars among China, Hindu, Mongol and Turks, some of the Turkish tribes had to immigrate to the western parts. One of the regions that were most affected by these migrations and wars was the area on which the Adige Autonomous Republic was located. There are various communities from all Caucasus tribes in the Adige Autonomous Republic within the structure of Russian Federation.
