Name of Kazakh: "The name of Kazakh can be observed in the literary resources of the countries with literary cultures that had established relations with Kazakh people. These resources include the works written in the languages of Chinese, Arabian, Farsi, Byzantine, Russian, Mongolian and Turkish. Due to the linguistic characteristics of these works, the name of “Kazakh” was written as Asa, Kasa, Hasa, Haysak, Kosok, Gasag, Hasık, Kasok, Kazak, Kazsak, etc.

We cannot definitely determine the period in which the name of Kazakh came into existence. Actually, the etymology of the word of “Kazakh” dates back to the ancient times of the history.

The historians have asserted various hypotheses and evidence about the Kazakh people. For example; Academician Marr: “..Kazakh (kasok, kasahi) people live in the Caucasus…”. the Czechoslovakian historian Grozniy states that: “Kazakh people are the descendants of Hun people that who lived in the Western region of the Caspian Sea BC.and that the words of Caucasus and caspi were derived from the root of kaz, kas and the name of “Kazakh” was also derived from this word”. The Armenian historian- author Musa Hareni states that “… Kazakh people had fought with the Persian people in the period of Iran Ruler Velirittis in the years of 197-126 BC.

The famous scholar advocated the allegations of Radlof, Vamberi, Bartold, Samoyloviç, and Marr about the term of "Kazakh". He stated that “this word has a root that dates back to the historical centuries” and it evolved as the combination of the words of Kaspii and Sak. He also stated that this word gained the meaning of “free, brave, independent, rebellious”, etc. in the further periods. Kazakh poet Kadir Mirzali states that "...Biz-Kazak, ecelden erkindik ansağan...(We are Kazakhs free from the past eternity)" and he indicated with these words that the name of Kazakh meant, “free”.
