Destruction of Turkish Settlement Places
Baas Government applied for practices in connection with making pressure on Turks. In this region, some villages were evacuated so that new military facilities would be established in Turkish regions. As a result of a new practice, many villages and small towns were evacuated and destroyed. Besides some of the villages evacuated were settled by Arabs. Bılava village in which was close to Kerkük was a peculiar sample of this practice. This village, a hundred percent of Turks , was evacuated so that military airport would be built. However, 30 July village next to this village and inhabited by Arabs was not entered at all. Apart from Bılava , Badava ,Topzava, Kümbetler, Yayçı and Tokmaklı villages were evacuated, too . Meanwhile, the residents of villages were forced to settle in another region by migrating from their villages without taking compensation. From Beşir village which was a real Turkish village, about a hundred boys and girls were executed. Villagers were also exiled into the camps in Ben-i Sılava , 7 km from Erbil. The houses left behind by he villagers forced to migrate, were either given to Arabs brought from South or pulled down. Another way was practised for diminishing density of Turks in Kerkük nearly 2000 houses were destroyed so that 600m. expansion of autobahn would be built. Meanwhile Muhammediye Mosque was destroyed too. Then, international train stations were announced to be built in Tisin neighbouring 500 old houses which reflected traditional architectural characteristic of the area were also pulled down. In new Tisin 1000 houses belonging to Turks were occupied families who were confiscated to houses, would not have had their new houses even if they found money to buy them again. Because as we mentioned about it, it had been prohibited to have immovable property in Turkish regions. As it is known when the station building ended the whole houses would be given Arabs and would be made progress in Pan-Arabian plan of Kerkük.
