The great khan of Ottoman and Golden Horde Turkish States

When Shahruh became the Great Khan in the year of 1407, he moved the capital city to Herat. He suppressed all the civil turmoil and struggles within a short period and he subdued all the regions under his domination. He organised military expeditions against Karakoyunlu State and the Mongolian Celayirli group that established dominion in Iraq. He captured Iraq and he assigned his son, Ulug Bey to the General Governorship of Transoxania. The centre of the general governorship of Ulug Bey was Samarkand.

The Western Turks, in other words, the Golden Horde State and the Ottoman State and the Anatolian bey principalities had recognised him as the Great Turkish Khan, in other words, their sovereign until the death of Shahruh.

In the last years of Shahruh that dominated the state for 40 years, the entire country attained peace and comfort; and the Cultural and Artistic life of Timurlu Era that would develop to a high level gained a new impetus in his period.

Shahruh died a natural death at the age of 70 in the year of 1447 and his son Ulug Bey replaced him.
