over Tunguz People (Evenks)

Tunguz people lived in region in the east of the Lake Baikal and the top section of Lena river extending from Yuraki Tunguska stream towards Taymyr peninsula that was the coast of the Arctic Ocean in the right section (eastern section) of Yenisey River. Tunguz people who lived in the form of separate clans under the domination of small beys immigrated among the "Taiga" forests and their means of subsistence was hunting the furred animals. Tunguz people that were composed of a very combatant tribe tried to stop the diffusion of the Russian influence in Taiga; but they were obliged to subdue against the armed forces of the Russians. Like the other Sibir tribes, Tungusic people were forced to give "yasak" to the Russian officials and to deposit securities (ananat-deposit). In the year of 1648, the city of Barguzin was founded in the eastern section of the Lake Baikal. Therefore, some of Tungusic people were subdued under the Russian control. A long period passed in order to subdue the Tungusic people that lived in the regions of "taiga" in the north. The fellows sent by the Russian governors would collect the furs in the definite periods of the year with a predetermined amount and they would return to Russia. Most of Tungusic clans continued to fight against the Russians until the end of the century XVII. However, since they were exposed to Russian attacks from every direction, they were obliged to become submissive to the Russian domination.
